Cancelling AI auto-renewal safely: a channel-aware method

A method for finding and completing cancellation in the correct purchase channel, with the verification steps that confirm renewal is truly stopped and the common pitfall of confusing app deletion with subscription cancellation.

The core principle: cancel where you bought the subscription. Deleting the app, signing out, stopping use, or deleting the account does not reliably stop renewal—the subscription is a billing relationship with a channel, not a property of the app installation. This is the single most common pitfall we encounter.

The method: first identify the purchase channel. For a web order, open the account's plan, subscription, or billing settings inside the product. For Apple, use the Apple ID subscription list in Settings or the App Store. For Google Play, use Payments and subscriptions. Menu names vary by OS version, so verify the final confirmation screen says 'cancelled,' 'will not renew,' or shows an end date.

Before cancelling, record the next renewal date. After cancelling, save the confirmation email or screenshot. Most providers leave access available until the paid period ends, but the cancellation page controls the exact terms. If the order cannot be found, check whether you are signed into the correct purchase email, Apple ID, or Google account, and search for the original order receipt.

Failure signals: the subscription still renews after you 'cancelled' because the action was performed in the wrong channel, or because app deletion was mistaken for cancellation. The limitation: cancellation normally prevents a future charge but does not refund the current period—a refund requires a separate request through the same channel.
